Description
The wine estate was built in 1920 and by 1947 the wine cellar was completed and a group of local farmers starting making wines under the Franschhoek Cellar name. In 2008, a return to private ownership saw Franschhoek Cellar move back to its roots in celebrating its heritage and focusing on creating varietal wines that reflect our unique South African terroir. Franschhoek is one of the truly great wine & food destinations in South Africa.
Fruit is sourced from only the best vineyards and growers, from the best-suited regions for each variety to create distinctive fruit-driven wines. By selecting and sourcing grapes from the broad boundaries of the Cape winelands, we achieve consistent, high quality standards, vintage after vintage.
Gentle maceration to extract only refined and silky tannins and optimal colour was followed by French oak maturation for 8 to 12 months, to help smooth out the wine and allow seamless integration.
